The end of a sore back? FIA takes action against bouncing – F1sport.cz

This year’s cars suffer from bouncing due to the greater influence of the floor. The situation is different depending on the circuit but also the team. For example, Red Bull has apparently managed the situation. At the other end is the Mercedes. But there can also be differences between the riders of one team.

In Baku, bouncing was criticized by a number of riders (according to Tot Wolff, even everyone except Alons). Bouncing affects riders’ backs.

The FIA issued a technical directive. “After the eighth event of this year’s FIA Formula 1 World Championship, during which the phenomenon of aerodynamic oscillations (porpoising) of the new generation of F1 cars and its influence during and after the race on the physical condition of the drivers manifested itself, the FIA decided as the governing body of this sport. In the interest of safety, it is necessary to intervene and require the teams to make the necessary adjustments to reduce or eliminate this phenomenon, “said the FIA.

The International Automobile Federation may issue a directive or change the rules for safety reasons without the unanimous consent of the teams. And it was this tool that she used after “consulting with her doctors in the interest of riders’ safety.”

“In sports where competitors normally drive at speeds in excess of 300 km / h, it is considered that all rider concentration must be focused on this task and that excessive fatigue or pain experienced by the rider could have serious consequences if it led to to a loss of concentration. “

“In addition, the FIA has concerns about the immediate physical impact on the health of riders, many of whom have reported back pain since recent events.”

The FIA said the technical guideline was issued to “provide teams with guidance on the steps the FIA intends to take to address this issue.”

The measure will be more

The first measure proposed is “a more thorough inspection of the boards and rails, both in terms of their construction and in terms of the wear worn”.

The second measure will be “the definition of a metric based on the vertical acceleration of the vehicle, which will provide a quantitative limit for an acceptable level of vertical oscillations.”

“The exact mathematical formula for this metric is still being analyzed by the FIA, and F1 teams have been invited to participate in this process.”

Translated into Czech: The FIA will introduce a maximum rate of bouncing in a certain way, and teams will have to fit into this value – probably by setting the ground clearance, if they do not find a solution through development.

The FIA adds: “In addition to these short-term measures, the FIA will convene a technical meeting with the teams to define measures that will reduce the susceptibility of cars to these phenomena in the medium term.”
