There is (yet) no crying in baseball. The Rockford Peaches will be revisited in Amazon’s upcoming A League of Their Own TV series – and fans of the classic film can officially expect to see at least one familiar face.

Based on the 1992 film of the same name, Abbi Jacobson and Will Graham co-created the TV reboot.

“Twenty-eight years ago, Penny Marshall told us a story of women playing professional baseball that had hitherto been largely overlooked,” Graham and Jacobson said in a statement in August 2020. “We grew up obsessed with the film, like everyone else. Three years ago, we approached Sony with the idea of telling a new, yet neglected series of those stories. With the help of a hugely talented team of collaborators, an amazing cast and Amazon’s devoted support of this project, we feel more than fortunate and excited to bring these characters to life. It took grit, fire, authenticity, wild imagination and a roaring sense of humor for these players to make their dreams come true. We hope to bring a story with all these qualities to the public ”.

A League of Their Own, a fictional story based on the real women’s baseball league that started during World War II, starring Geena Davis, Lori Petty, Madonna, Rosie O’Donnell and Tom Hanks. When production on the show began in July 2021, O’Donnell revealed that she will be making an appearance.

“I play a bartender in one of the scenes at the local gay bar,” the comedian said on the “Everything Iconic With Danny Pellegrino” podcast. “I had a great experience in A League of Their Own. I love the women of Broad City and when I was told [Abbi] he was doing League, he called me and he said, ‘Ro, would you do that?’ And I said: “In a minute”. … Then he sent me the pilot he did and it was really beautiful.

O’Donnell played Doris Murphy in the 90s film. “It’s funny, during A League of Our Own, my character again, I think he was gay,” she explained. “And when she gave that speech – ‘I’ve never really felt like a real girl. I’ve always felt like a fake girl, not even a girl, but now there are so many of us and I feel like we’re all okay ‘- I did it on the bus and [director] Penny Marshall says, ‘Rosie, do it again. It’s not a gay thing. ‘”

The actress, however, asked to disagree. “I said, ‘Pen, did you read the words?’ Words totally are that she finally feels she fits in with this tomboy group. There’s this little undertone, ”O’Donnell recalled. “She said, ‘No, it’s nothing gay. Don’t make him gay. ‘ I played it the way I played it. But once again, for me, that was a gay character. “
