Tennis trainer Dennis van S. suspect in sex offense, his Hoofddorp club breaks ties

The prominent tennis coach who was recently arrested on suspicion of a sexual offense is Dennis van S. from Aalsmeer. Until recently, the trainer taught at the Arnolduspark in Hoofddorp. Several sources within the Haarlemmermeer tennis circles confirm this today NH News.

A source within tennis club Arnolduspark says that all ties with Van S. have been severed. Everyone at tennis association Arnolduspark would have been informed via an email in the past period.

Dennis van S. was arrested in May on suspicion of a sexual offence. Two men who worked with him have reported sexual abuse.

World top-100

The NOS wrote this morning about a shock in the tennis top† Dennis van S. himself was active in the global top 100 as a player. The two men who reported him would play in the professional circuit.

The investigation into Van S. is in full swing. He has recently been questioned and briefly detained, but has since been released pending the investigation.

Until seven years ago, Van S. was also active at the Amsterdam club Amstelpark. The club says that they have not received any signals from members or trainers that indicate abuse by Van S.

‘Shocked of course’

The Royal Dutch Tennis Association (KNLTB) said it was ‘naturally shocked’ by the news. “We are not bringing out names, but are participating in the investigation,” spokesperson Ellen Julius told NH Nieuws. The KNLTB works with NOC*NSF in this, the association reports on its site.

She emphasizes that the association has not had the illusion that the tennis world is immune to abuse scandals. That is why a lot is being done on prevention. “We have been promoting our associations for years, there are codes of conduct, a hotline and we advise clubs to ask for a VOG (Declaration on Behavior, ed.) from board members and trainers.”
