Sabine Lisicki missed the leap into the main draw at the lawn tournament in Berlin.

The former Wimbledon finalist lost in the second qualifying round to Australia’s Daria Saville 0:6, 6:7 (7:9) and will therefore not be there in her hometown when the tennis event really gets going this Monday.

“I gave everything. I also wanted to win, but these days cost me a lot emotionally,” said Lisicki after her defeat. On Saturday, the 32-year-old had won against Asia Muhammad from the USA 6: 4, 6: 4 at the start of the qualification.

It was only on May 2nd that the former number twelve in the world made her comeback after an 18-month break due to a serious knee injury. “I tried to fight my way in, but at the right moment Daria was simply better,” said Lisicki. But she will remain in the tournament for the time being. In doubles, Lisicki competes with Canadian Bianca Andreescu.

Tamara Korpatsch was the only German qualifier to reach the main draw. The Hamburg native defeated the Australian Storm Sanders 7: 6 (9: 7), 6: 0. Besides her, only Andrea Petkovic (Darmstadt) and Jule Niemeier (Dortmund) are there. Angelique Kerber will not start in Berlin and will only be preparing for the grass classic in Wimbledon (June 27th to July 10th) in Bad Homburg.
