The swimmer from San Sebastian is second in the 100 meter backstroke, category S8, equaling his result from the Tokyo Paralympic Games

Iñigo Llopis has his favorite test in the 100 meter backstroke, category S8, and this Monday he demonstrated it again at the Penteada Olympic Swimming Complex, in Funchal (Portugal), where the World Championship for the specialty is being held.

The swimmer from San Sebastian was one of the names to be taken into account in this test and from the morning he dominated the qualifying series, achieving victory in his and setting the second fastest time of all the participants in the morning tests.

In the afternoon, in the final, Llopis made a good start, placing behind Griswold. He turned in second position, 2.18 behind the American and with just 46 hundredths of an advantage over the Argentine Pipo Carlomagno.

As usual, the swimmer from Gipuzkoa went from less to more, improving his times in the second part of the test, although that was not enough to catch an imposing Griswold, who took the gold with a time of 1:03.82, while Llopis was second with a time of 1:07.92. Carlomagno confirmed his bronze (1: 10.91) without disturbing Llopis in second position.

It is not the first time that the swimmer from San Sebastian has shone in this event, as he also won silver in the 100-meter backstroke at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, bronze at the London World Cup in 2019, silver at the 2018 European Championship held in Dublin and gold at the last European Championships, also held in Funchal in 2021, just before the Paralympic Games.
