ST. LOUIS — Albert Pujols wrote another chapter in his illustrious career as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night.

The Cards legend drove in the game-winning run for his club in the bottom of the 10th inning, allowing Tony Edman to score to give St. Louis a 3-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

Pujols only needed a sacrifice fly to score Edman, who stole third base while his veteran teammate was at bat.

At 42, the powerful hitter is back with the Cards for what will be his 22nd and final season in Major League Baseball.

Pujols was immediately congratulated by his good friend, another longtime member of the Cards, receiver Yadier Molina.

With the victory, St. Louis won a fourth game in its last five outings. His record, which is seven games above the .500 mark, is the best the team has had this season.

Outfielder Lars Nootbaar contributed to this gain by making an important defensive play at the start of the 10th. He pinned Jose Azocar at the plate by going there with a relay that was both powerful and precise.

Molina rushed to put the glove on the runner, giving the Cards a chance to win at the next bat.
