Sofía Paiz and Roberto Hernández refine their aim for three highly demanding competitions – Diario La Página

Salvadoran goalkeepers Sofía Paiz and Roberto Hernández sharpen their aim and prepare their luggage to travel on June 17 to Paris, where it will be the starting point for three highly demanding competitions that will take place between June and the first week of July.

The first appointment of the national archers will be the III Stage of the World Cup in Paris, from June 21 to 26, where they will compete in individual and mixed team of the compound bow modality.

“For us it will be a warm-up for the Bolivarian Games and the World Games, but our idea is to be among the top 10 in individual and mixed team,” said the Santaneco goalkeeper.

Hernández recalled that participation in Paris brings him good feelings since in 2021 he was the only Latin American who achieved a score of 712 in the qualifying round of the event.

From Parisian territory, the Paiz-Hernández duo will travel to Colombia to compete in the Valledupar Bolivarian Games, which will be held from June 24 to July 5. In the case of archery they will compete from June 30 to July 4.

“The goal is to seek a medal, the number of countries is smaller but Colombia competes, which has world champions,” Hernández said about his participation in the Bolivarian Games.

In the Bolivarian Games, in addition to Hernández and Paiz, Paola Corado, Douglas Nolasco and Miguel Ángel Véliz will compete, while Marcela Cortez and Óscar Ticas will participate in recurve bow.

Paiz and Hernández’s third competition will be the World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, United States, from July 7 to 17, although in the case of archery, the athletes will shoot from July 7 to 9.

For Roberto Hernández it will be his third World Games in his record, after those of Cali, Colombia 2013 and Wroclaw, Poland 2017. Of these two participations, Hernández won a bronze medal in Colombia.

“Our goal is to get into the top eight positions and be in a mixed team final,” Hernandez said.

The National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES) supports the participation of archers from Cusco in the three international events.
