Silver Road tennis tournament: where are the women?

After two years of stopping the tennis courts of the town finally find the competitors of the tournament of the Route d’Argent for its 34th edition. The first balls were exchanged on Wednesday June 1st but the tables made little progress during the Pentecost weekend because “it was very complicated to have the 2 players in a match at the same time” notes Eric Carrara, referee of the ‘test.

On Tuesday, the ladies entered the fray, a few valiant who have not given up on the competition because, it must be admitted, the girls desert the tournaments while the figures, among the men, are rather stable: out of 97 registered in the 7 June only 15 women appear, including only three 3rd series! Unheard of in the annals of the Route d’Argent. But it’s not too late, the 3rd and 2nd women’s series can still register, so be brave girls! If they shun individual competition, “I have never had so many entries for doubles and especially for mixed doubles: 16 men’s doubles and 10 mixed doubles” is surprised the one who is also president of the silver road tennis club “people want to have fun more than to confront each other”.

The end of the draws, for the men, promises to be exciting with 14 already entered in the 2nd series, with one week to go there are only 2 places left! And we will be happy to find the winner of the last edition, in 2019, the Argentinian Santiago Miguel-Alvarez (-2/6) who is currently the sparring partner of Hugo Gaston.

Finally, a word about the Mozaîc tournament, which is aimed at young people and which has lost its luster of a few years ago: “With the introduction of free matches that allow you to play in your club out of competition and then have your result approved, parents are reluctant to accompany their children to tournaments, it’s more comfortable to play at home!”.

But is this the right solution when we have seen over the years the lack of results in French tennis?
