Shigeki Maruoka, 70 years old, living in Honmachi, who became the GM of the Shonan-based B3 professional basketball club “Shonan United BC” | Fujisawa

It is the mission to take root in Shonan

○… The director in baseball is the head coach, and the general manager (GM) is in charge of looking over the whole, including financial aspects. Based in Fujisawa, Chigasaki, and Samukawa, he was in charge of steering the first professional basketball club that was born in April. “First of all, we should be natural, play a role together, and literally unite,” he says gently.

○… Speaks of “people who haven’t chosen an easy path for a long time”. Until last year, he was the president of the B3 league. He has felt the rigor and difficulty of running a professional club more than anyone else. He was also thinking of withdrawing from the industry in terms of age. Still, it was his desire as a pioneer that he had cultivated so far that he decided to “do it”. “The fun of creating a new club in the direction I envisioned won.”

○… I am from Kagawa prefecture. In addition to playing an active role as a high school, large, and member of society, he also supervised the Toyota Tsusho and local Takamatsu professional teams to which he belonged, and also managed the league. He seems to be a basketball player, but he also has a track record as a business person. He has experienced many new businesses and business restructurings at a trading company of the Toyota Group. He achieved the difficult task of building a store, which was to open on the same day nationwide when launching the luxury car Lexus brand. On the other hand, he recalled, “I didn’t care much about my family,” and resigned from his job after his wife’s fight against cancer and took care of him for seven and a half years. Even after his death, he continues to visit the grave 100 times a year. It is filled with gratitude for the greatest understanding of his life.

○… While rushing to build a team toward the opening, we are also formulating a plan to be loved by the citizens. Ideas such as participation in community contribution activities, public practice, and school projects will spring up. “We will take root in Shonan and hand it over to young people. This is our mission,” he said strongly.
