Of the five football clubs in Pieriga, which played the first round of the second stage of the Latvian Cup over the weekend, only the football club “Salaspils” managed to enter the next round – the sixteenth final. The team of Mārupe Sports Center and the unit of the Joint Football Academy “Olaine” and two other Salaspils teams – SK “Kengaroos” and JFK “Daugava” suffered losses.
In the second stage of the Latvian Cup, 24 first, second and third league teams will compete for six tickets to the eighth final, where they will be joined by ten Super League clubs. The players of FK “Salaspils” playing in the first league managed to enter the second league without any big problems, who defeated the Gulbene BJSS team from the third league with 9: 0. Edgars Pavļenko scored three goals, Jean Borisenok and Juris Macuks scored two, Eriks Boroduška and Andrejs Kondratjevs scored one.
However, in both games in Salaspils, the homeowners suffered losses. The footballers of the sports club “Kengaroos”, having lost the only goal five minutes to the end, gave up 0: 1 to the team of “Football Park Academy” / LSPA. The JFK “Daugava” footballers playing in the third league met with the football school “Alberts” team from the first league at the Salaspils Stadium and lost 0: 4 already in the first half. Next, Edgars Hudjakovs with a penalty kick of 11 meters and Genrih Ivanov recovered two goals, but in the remaining 10 minutes they let in another – 2: 5.
The AFA “Olaine” team, which played against the football players of the Grobiņa Sports Center, did not have enough victory with two goals. After the first half, the Olains lost 1: 3, after the break in the first 15 minutes they scored two more goals and, although they scored the second goal, at the end they “broke” completely – 2: 8. Emīls Aivars and Elmārs Ģēģers were exactly for the benefit of the homeowners.
The footballers of Mārupe Sports Center, who hosted the football club “Smiltene” at home, suffered a much more intense fight. In the first half, the owners of the field scored two goals in two minutes, but even before the break, Rainer Veides recovered one. In the second half, the people of Smilten resented the advantage of two goals, a few minutes later Kristiāns Korsaks reduced the difference to a minimum again, but already during the compensation he pulled a draw – 3: 3. In the extra time the result did not change, but in the series of post-match penalties with 5: 4 Smiltene footballers turned out to be a bit superior, who are playing the league higher than their opponents this season (Mārupis are in the second league).
Pieriga footballers also had a rather sad weekend. In the women’s football league, the players of Ķekava football club “Auda” were the winners and three points, who were played 2: 0 by the students of the Riga Football School. Monta Ščucka was accurately beaten in the first half, and Evelīna Sendija Čubare in the second half. In turn, the football players of FC “Olaine” were unable to stop the series of victories of the leader ICF “Riga” – 1: 5. In the middle of the first half, Christian Esther Punga was exactly in favor of the Olainians, reaching a draw of 1: 1.
In the tournament table, FK “Olaine” with 11 points in 8 games is in the third place after SFK “Rīga” (24 points) and football school “Metta” (16 points), but FK “Auda” with 8 points in 8 matches is in the fifth position.
In the women’s first league, the footballers of RFS / Babīte sports club experienced their sixth failure in a row, on Sunday they gave 0-0 to the Rezekne BJSS team, but FK “Sigulda” lost 0: 4 to FK “Tukums 2000” footballers at home. Pieriga teams take the last two places in the table – Sigulda women have one victory in five games, but Babīte team is still empty.
There is no reason to rejoice in the men’s team of FC “Sigulda”, which has suffered the third loss in a row in the tournament of the Northeastern Group of the Latvian Third League – 0: 2 against FC “Cesis”.
In its turn, in the game of the Center Group, the unit of FC “Olaine” / FC “Union” slightly compensated the misfortunes of its residents in other tournaments – a devastating victory 8: 0 over the students of Riga Technical University. Artyom Kozlovsky marked the “hat-trick”, Vadim Kupriyanov scored two, Edgars Urbāns, Bogdan Nesterenko and Viktor Kulepov each. Olaineers have three wins in five games and third place in the tournament table.
