Sahnoune and Melih eliminated from the playoffs

Algerian swimmers Oussama Sahnoune (29) and Amel Melih (28) were eliminated from the series phase of the 2022 World Championships in long pool currently underway in Budapest (Hungary). Note that the great hope Jaouad Syoud (22 years old) skipped this competition to devote himself to the JM d’Oran 2022.

It is useful to know that these 2022 World Championships in long course swimming, which take place from June 18 to 25 in the Hungarian capital, constitute the final preparatory stage for Sahnone et Melih before the Mediterranean Games, due to start this Saturday in Oran. On the contrary, in order not to chain competitions, the swimmer Jaouad Syoud opted for another strategy.

Thus and on the 50 meters freestyle, Sahnone settled for 33rd place, out of a total of 90 entries, with a time of twenty-two seconds and fifty-six hundredths far from his personal best (21’96). Disappointing at the last Tokyo 2020 Olympics with an early elimination, the swimmer who now trains in Germany with the Frankfurt club hopes to regain his best level.

On his side, Melih who competed in the 50-meter butterfly, in addition to the 50-meter freestyle, and like his compatriot, failed to reach the finals. Indeed, on the 50 meters/freestyle, the Algerian finished 28th, out of a total of 82 athletes, with a time of twenty-six seconds and seven hundredths. As for her race on the 50 meters / butterfly, she finished 37th, out of a total of 60 athletes, with a time of 27 seconds and 59 seconds.

Algerians want to shine in Oran

It should be noted that the two Algerians wanted to gauge their abilities in the presence of the best swimmers on the planet before engaging in the JM, where they will be sixteen in total to defend the national colors (10 gentlemen and 6 ladies). Finally, it is just as important to point out that the swimming events at the JM d’Oran are planned from July 1 to 5, in the new aquatic complex.

The Algerian Federation of the discipline hopes to see its athletes “qualify for as many finals as possible, and why not win a medal”, or more. By the way Oussama Sahnoune has 2 medals (gold in 100m freestyle and silver in 50m freestyle) won at the last JM 2018 in Tarragona. He will thus try, despite a decline in form in recent years, to expand his fine record on the continental and regional level. The other swimmer to follow will undoubtedly be the rising star Jaouad Syoud who is aiming for several medals in Oran since he should enter several races.
