Sabaneño athletes reach seven medals in Judo

During his participation in the Puerto Rico Games

Big bed sheet. Seven Sabaneño athletes made the City of Petate shine during their participation, this weekend, in the Eighth Edition of the Puerto Rico Games held in Manatí. During the event, the young winners obtained two bronze, three silver and two gold medals in the sports discipline of Judo.

“A huge and beautiful flag served as inspiration for our delegation of children and youth to reach the top in the Eighth Edition of the National Games of the Department of Recreation and Sports (DRD). We feel very proud that all the representatives of our people managed to impose themselves with significant victories”, said the mayor of Sabana Grande Marcos Valentín Flores.

The Mayor explained that other sabaneños also raised victories in the sport although they competed for sister towns. “To this we include Gael E. Torres Acosta who managed to obtain the Silver medal in the sport of Chess, the boxer Johniel Ramos who obtained the Silver medal and Michael Pietri who obtained the Gold medal in table tennis. To all these athletes, their coaches and parents go our most humble recognition”.

The young winners during the competitions were: Angelica Victoriah Quiñónez Rodríguez and Valeria Michelle Ramos Vélez Judo Champions with Gold Medal, Oneilys Lorian Santana Gelabert, Gadriel Oneill Santana Gelabert and Alexis Padilla Montalvo, Judo Sub-Champions with Silver Medal, while Ian Soto Irizarry and Jesús Manuel García emerged victorious with a Bronze Medal.

For Quiñónez Rodríguez, Judo is a martial art where you can project your opponent in different ways. “Many people confuse this discipline with Karate, but the combat and the procedure is very different, since it helps physically and mentally,” he explained.

All the winners expressed feeling moved by the victory achieved, they dedicated their achievements to the fathers and mothers who accompanied them on this path. They also took the opportunity to thank Sensei Alexander Pérez for his commitment and dedication to the team.
