Russian Alexandrova surprises ‘s-Hertogenbosch

Ekaterina Alexandrova caused a sensation by winning the final in straight sets against Sabalenka (7-5, 6-0).

The Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, 30th in the world, created a surprise by winning the grass tournament of ‘s-Hertogenbosch on Sunday by beating in the final the No. 1 seed, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, in straight sets 7-5, 6- 0.

It is only the second title of the career of this great waitress, aged 27, after Shenzhen in 2020. She will not be able to take advantage of her good form at Wimbledon, no more than her rival, because the Russians and Belarusians have been excluded due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Sabalenka, 6th in the world, semi-finalist of the Grand Slam on grass last year, collapsed after leading 5-4 in the first set. She conceded nine games in a row by committing no less than 31 faults in total.

Alexandrova finished the match with her best weapon with two service winners and an ace. She will climb to 27th place in the world and get closer to her best ranking (25th).
