Rich and Edigin leave the Towers – Yoeli Childs arrives

After the change of Justus Hollatz, the Hamburg Towers have to cope with the next departure of a homegrown player. On Friday morning, Wilhelmsburg confirmed the farewell to Osaro Jürgen Rich. Back-up center Eddy Edigin is also leaving the towers after just one year – and switching to a Towers competitor.

For eight long years, Rich went basket hunting for the Hamburg Towers and their cooperation partner, SC Rist Wedel. During this time, however, the 23-year-old never had a breakthrough. That’s probably why the Lübecker is now looking for his chance at another club.

Rich moves to Bayreuth – Edigin to Ludwigsburg

“I had a really great time here in Hamburg. I am very grateful to Marvin (Willoughby, editor’s note) and all the coaches who have accompanied me here since the U16 – not only for my athletic training, but also for their support during my school days,” says Rich.

“Now I have a new, exciting task ahead of me, I’m really looking forward to it,” explains the guard. This new task is called Bayreuth – the former club of the new Towers coach Raoul Korner. “We can really be very proud of how Osaro has developed in our program over the past eight years,” says manager Willoughby, looking back on Rich’s time with the Hamburg team and elaborating: “I can very well imagine that Jürgen at the Guest performance here in the arena will be warmly welcomed again.”

Eddy Edigin will also be a guest at Inselpark next season. The 26-year-old leaves the towers in the direction of Ludwigsburg. The Hanseatic League also announced this on Friday. “Eddy played a good first year at the highest German level. For the coming season, however, we have decided that we will plan with a different type of player for his position,” said Willoughby.

Yoeli Childs joins the Towers from the G-League

After these two departures, the towers also reported the second newcomer of the transfer summer. The Big Man Yoeli Childs moves from the USA to Wilhelmsburg. “I am very happy to be part of the Hamburg Towers from now on,” the US boy is quoted as saying. After three BBL appearances for Edigin’s new club Ludwigsburg, the American played in the G-League, the NBA’s development league, for the Salt Lake City Stars last season and averaged 15.5 points.

“We were looking for a physical, athletic, mobile and variable indoor player who could play above ring level and rebound the ball and give us the necessary presence under the baskets. We have found this in Yoeli”, Korner is already looking forward to his newcomer. In July, Childs, who signs a one-year contract with the Towers, will initially play for the NBA Summer League with the Utah Jazz.
