“Positive test in training” for David Goffin who will return to Halle

It was his agent, Martin Roux, who confirmed it Friday evening to Belga. “David did a training test on Thursday in Belgium with his team,” explained the Frenchman. “I don’t have all the details, but I know that everything went well and that he no longer felt any pain in his adductors. That was the most important thing. This test having come back positive, he took the road to Halle this Friday with Germain (Editor’s note: Gigounon, his coach) and Fabien Demoitié, his physiotherapist”.

David Goffin injured his left hip at the end of his second round match at Roland-Garros won against the American Frances Tiafoe (ATP 27). Two days later, a false move at the end of the first set of his third round against the Pole Hurkacz (ATP 13) had aggravated the situation and the Belgian N.1 had finished the match on one leg, losing 7-5 , 6-2, 6-1.

Affected in the psoas, the Liègeois hoped to be able to start his season on grass at the ATP 250 tournament in Rosmalen this week, but he “did not have the material time to prepare myself properly”, as he had confided on his Instagram account. He will therefore resume in Halle, where he was a finalist, in 2019, against Roger Federer. He will find there, among others, the Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP 2), the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (ATP 5) and the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP 9).
