Phillies suffer first loss in Thomson era | Sports

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Christian Walker had three hits and three RBIs, Jake McCarthy homered and the Arizona Diamondbacks thrashed the Phillies 13-1 on Sunday to end Philadelphia’s nine-game winning streak and give to interim manager Rob Thomson his first loss.

Ketel Marte and Alek Thomas each drove in two runs for Arizona, which finished a 10-game road trip with a 4-6 record.

The Phillies suffered their first loss since May 31 and Thomson lost for the first time since replacing Joe Girardi on June 3. Thomson’s eight wins to begin his tenure as manager equaled the most by a Phillies captain and he is second overall behind only Boston’s Joe Morgan, who won 12 straight in 1988.

Philadelphia and its club-record payroll of $240 million remained averaging .500 and remains in contention for a playoff berth. He entered the game third in the NL East, eight games behind the Mets and 2.5 shy of the final wild-card spot in the NL.

For the Diamondbacks, the Dominicans Marte 4-1 with two runs scored and two RBIs, and Geraldo Perdomo 4-2 with a run scored.

For the Phillies, the Venezuelan Odúbel Herrera 1-1.
