Valledupar (Colombia), Jun 29 (EFE).- The Peruvian delegation took back this Thursday the third place in the classification of the XIX Bolivarian Games, which are held in the Colombian city of Valledupar, with a great performance in badminton.
The medal table is led by the hosts with 45 gold, 31 silver and 23 bronze medals, followed by Venezuela with 18 gold, 16 silver and 28 bronze medals.
Peru, which fell from third place to Chile, has already accumulated 15 gold, 16 silver and 28 bronze medals.
FOUR OF FOUR
On the last day of the badminton competition, which was held at the Zipaquirá sub-site, near Bogotá, the Peruvian team took the four gold medals that were in competition.
Inés Castillo won the women’s individual competition by beating the local María Yulieth Pérez with partials of 21-11 and 21-19, category in which the also Peruvian Namie Miyahira won the bronze.
The Inca delegation also won gold in men’s doubles with the José Guevara-Diego Mini duo, who beat their compatriots Diego Subauste and Daniel La Torre 21-16 and 21-10.
Meanwhile, Castillo and Paula La Torre beat the Peruvians Namie Miyahira and Fernanda Saporana 16-21, 21-18 and 21-17, with which that country also won the two main prizes in the women’s doubles category.
Finally Guevara and Castillo obtained the first place in mixed doubles with their victory with 21-18, 13-21 and 21-13 over Salvadorans Javier Alas and Fátima Centeno.
COLOMBIAN GOLD IN FOOTBALL
Colombia managed to retain the futsal title of the Bolivarian Games by drawing 1-1 with Paraguay, which took the silver, while the bronze went to Panama, a historic result for that delegation.
The host, who finished undefeated and with 11 points, carried the weight of the game, despite the fact that the tie won the gold medal.
A shot by Richard Gutiérrez allowed the Colombians to open the scoring to better manage the match, which their rival began to fight and even had a chance with goalkeeper González himself when they let him kick freely to try to tie.
The 1-1 ended with a corner kick scored by Diego Poggi.
First thing in the morning, Panama made history by winning its first medal in a Bolivarianos in futsal. The team led by Apolinar Gálvez was able to culminate its memorable participation in Valledupar with a 10-2 win over El Salvador to secure the podium.
The eighth day of the Bolivarian Games will deliver medals in boxing, speed canoeing, mountain biking, track cycling, softball and sports shooting.
