No U.S. Open for Tiger Woods

Former world number 1 golfer Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the next U.S. Open scheduled for June 16-19, he announced on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old expressed his intention through his Twitter account, saying he informed the American Golf Association of his decision.

«[…] My body needs more time to allow me to be stronger for major tournaments. I hope and plan to prepare to play the JP McManus Pro-Am in Ireland [les 4 et 5 juillet] as well as the British Open next month [du 14 au 17 juillet]. I am excited to return to the game soon,” he wrote.

Woods retired after the third round of the PGA Championship on May 21. At the time of his withdrawal, he was ranked 76th and last among competitors who avoided the mid-tournament ax with a record of 222, 12 strokes above par. The American had previously played in the Masters Tournament in April, taking 47th place with a cumulative 301 (+13).
