NBA – Steve Clifford back on the Hornets bench

Steve Clifford, free since the end of his adventure in Orlando in June 2021, has been named coach of the Charlotte Hornets, the NBA franchise announced on Friday. The 60-year-old technician has already coached the Hornets for five seasons, from 2013 to 2018.

During his first stint in the franchise owned by Michael Jordan, Clifford had managed to lead his team twice in the playoffs, losing each time in the first round against Miami. This second elimination in 2016 is also the last appearance of the North Carolina team in the ‘postseason’. Clifford will succeed James Borrego, who himself succeeded him four years ago. After three seasons in Orlando Between 2018 and 2021, Clifford took on a consulting role with the Brooklyn Nets last season to support head coach Steve Nash.At the Hornets, Clifford will notably have under his management the young and talented point guard LaMelo Ball winger Miles Bridges. He will have to do better than a 10th place acquired in the East during the late exercise. (Belga)
