NBA AND MAMSA Sports Performance will launch a basketball school in the DR

NEW YORK. – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and Mamsa Sports Performance, an organization focused on delivering high-level sports performance, today announced a multi-year partnership to launch the first NBA Basketball School in the Dominican Republic.

The NBA School of Basketball will start with three local camps this summer for boys and girls ages 6-18, before expanding in 2023 to a year-round program with camps and clinics that will provide young athletes with on-court training , skills development and basketball education.

Registration for the first camp, to be held at Carol Morgan School in Santo Domingo for three weeks (July 4-8, 11-15 and 18-22), is now open at dr.nbabasketballschool.com/ .

The NBA School of Basketball is a network of tuition-based developmental programs open to boys and girls ages 6 to 18 who live outside the U.S. The Dominican Republic will become the fifth country to Latin America to launch or announce plans to open an NBA Basketball School, joining Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay.

“Our top priority is to create opportunities for boys and girls throughout Latin America and the Caribbean to learn the fundamentals and values ​​of the game through programs like the NBA Basketball School,” said NBA Senior Vice President and General Manager in Latin America, Arnon de Mello. “We are excited to partner with Mamsa Sports Performance to expand our youth basketball development efforts in the Dominican Republic and provide another platform for boys and girls across the country to play the game.”

The NBA School of Basketball curriculum, which is designed to develop players and provide parents, coaches and organizations with a better understanding of the improvement process, has been developed by the NBA International Basketball Operations department. the NBA in consultation with current and former NBA coaches, players and player development specialists. Since 2017, NBA Basketball Schools have been launched or announced in Argentina, Brazil, China, Greece, India, Italy, Kuwait, Lithuania, Mexico, Spain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Uruguay. The NBA School of Basketball program builds on the league’s elite and youth basketball development initiatives in Latin America, including the Jr. NBA, Básquetbol Sin Fronteras (BWB) Americas, and the NBA Latin America Academy. The Jr. NBA, the league’s global youth basketball program for boys and girls, has reached more than 7.9 million youth in six Latin American countries and territories during the 2021-22 season. The BWB, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program, has been held in the region 11 times, most recently last month. NBA Academy Latin America, an elite basketball training program in Mexico for top prospects from across Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Canada, has seen 22 participants – including players from the Women’s Program – engage with schools of NCAA Division I since its launch in 2017.
