Mayor Manuel Jiménez will head this Friday the solemn act of the start of the torch relay of the III Municipal Sports Games of the Municipality of Santo Domingo Este, scheduled to be held from the 14th of this month to the 14th of July.
A group of renowned athletes from the eastern zone, among whom the immortal basketball player Víctor Hansen, Mrs. Norma Díaz, “The Mother of Sport in Los Mina”, the Olympic medalist Anabel Medina, and the former volleyball team and Pedro-Pipilo-Núñez senior soccer, among others, will be present at the activity that will take place in front of the Santo Domingo Este City Hall (ASDE) starting at four in the afternoon.
Roberto Neris, director of Sports of the same, reported that the lighting of the torch will be in memory of the Minister of the Environment, Orlando Jorge Mera, whom he said was an ally of that city council, which he visited frequently.
The opening ceremony of the third edition of the fair will be on the 14th of this month at La Parada de la Cultura Ramón Oviedo, in front of the Parque del Este Complex.
More than 3,000 athletes in 28 sports disciplines will participate in the games, including baseball, basketball, volleyball, soccer, karate, judo, softball, taekwondo, weightlifting, track and field, tennis, chess and boxing.
