The Venezuelan bat Edward Escobar is officially warming up, as Mets infielder hit for the cycle for the first time in his Major League Baseball career (MLB). He completed the feat with a ninth-inning triple that drove in two runs and gave the Mets some confidence in their 11-5 victory over the Padres on Monday, June 6, in San Diego.

This was the first stint for a Mets player in 10 years; Scott Hairston was the most recent hitter on April 27, 2012. Escobar became the 11th in franchise history to get all four hits. It was also the first cycle in Petco Park’s 19-year history.

Escobar’s big night began with a single in the first before hitting a double in the fourth and hitting a home run in the eighth. Although it seemed that he would not have a chance for one more at-bat, the eighth and ninth innings stretched out enough to give the Venezuelan one more chance at bat to hit the triple and end his night with six RBIs.
