Milan, Nba players teach basketball to children of immigrants: “Playing sports is integrating”

Chimezie Metu, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Bismack Biyombo, Jusuf Nurkic and our Danilo Gallinari walked the parquet of the Bocconi University in Milan for “More than a game”, an event organized by the NBA basketball association (Nbpa) and Tam Tam Basketball, a sports club from Castel Volturno famous for being made up entirely of children of immigrants in Italy. “For us, the connection between basketball and social life is fundamental – explains the director of international relations of Nbpa, Matteo Zuretti – and in two days we offered the Tam Tam students lessons in the classroom with important managers and this special training day” . The five NBA athletes literally trained Tam Tam’s young basketball players by delving into game fundamentals and offering their testimony on the most important league in the world. In particular, the Milwaukee Bucks winger Thanasis Antetokounmpo, wanted to tell about his experience as a son of Nigerians in Greece, which is why in his youth he did not have access to Hellenic citizenship. “In 2017 we put a lot of pressure on them to let us play anyway because – recalls Tam Tam’s coach Massimo Antonelli – the regulations did not allow more than two foreigners in the team. We were listened to and an ad hoc law was passed. But what is needed is one. ius soli or an ius scholae that helps the little ones to feel Italian “.
