After the Supreme Court’s decision on the liberal abortion law, the outrage, especially among American female athletes, is huge. But they are not the only ones who now see women’s rights at risk.

Dhe official name of the change in law passed by the American Congress exactly fifty years ago is long and hard to remember. But his influence on everyday life in the United States can be described in a nutshell. Because the provisions created the starting point for a new way of thinking in education. Half a century later, there are equivalent sports programs for around three million girls in the country’s schools. And the proportion of young women doing competitive sport at the universities is 44 percent. A value that was a meager 15 percent in 1972.

So last week there were many good reasons to celebrate the milestone for the equality of women in society. But the mood among America’s athletes changed massively when the Supreme Court’s latest decision was announced on Friday. It, too, has a cryptic official name (Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization), but its effect can also be summarized relatively easily: the majority of the nine-member body, which has the final say on all existential questions of the nation, threw America’s women far return.
