Manchester United confirm the departure of Paul Pogba, at the end of the contract

‘The club can announce that Paul Pogba will leave Manchester United at the end of June when his contract expires,’ write the Red Devils as insistent rumors send the 29-year-old Frenchman to Juve where he played from 2012 to 2016, or at PSG, in full reconstruction.

According to the Italian media, Pogba would have agreed to return to Juve by agreeing to lower his salary to find the “Old lady”, the team where he lived his best years in club (2012-2016) with in particular four league titles and a Champions League final.

La Gazzetta dello Sport raises the possibility that the Frenchman will use the June 17 release of a documentary dedicated to him (“Pogmentary”) on Amazon Prime Video to formalize his decision.

Returning to Old Trafford in the summer of 2016 for more than 110 million euros, a record amount at the time, Pogba generally disappointed at United, displaying his undeniable talent only in eclipses.

The 2016-2017 season had however been promising, with a victory in the League Cup and the Europa League, but he could not then stem the decline of the Red Devils, weaned from the trophy since.

He had joined Manchester at 16, from Le Havre, making his debut in 2012 with the first team, under the orders of Alex Ferguson, before alienating the suspicious manager by leaving for Italy.

His relations with his coaches in England have often been complicated, even sometimes stormy with José Mourinho.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who had succeeded him, had seemed, for a time, to manage to find a way to get the best out of him during a 2019-2020 season complicated by injuries, but ended in a good 3rd place in the league, thanks to his good understanding with Bruno Fernandes.

The following season, United even finished runner-up, 12 points all the same, from Manchester City and reached the C3 final.

But, despite an ambitious recruitment with his compatriot Raphaël Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, Pogba’s last season at Old Trafford was very disappointing with a 6th place finish.
