Indonesian men’s doubles badminton athletes, Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri, compete at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, June 15, 2022.

SportFEAT.com – Ahead of the Malaysia Open 2022, Bagas/Fikri want to prove to coach Herry IP that they deserve to be reliable Indonesian men’s doubles apart from the Minions and The Daddies.

Previously, Herry Iman Pierngadi as the Indonesian men’s doubles coach said he would impose targets on young Indonesian couples.

Bagas Maulana/Muhamammad Shohibul Fikri is one of them.

After the 2022 All England Open, practically Bagas/Fikri have not yet shown the expected performance.

Finally, when performing in two tournaments in Indonesia, Bagas/Fikri’s steps always stopped at the hands of his own compatriot.

Patience Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani became Bagas/Fikri’s first tackle when they met in the first round of the Indonesia Masters 2022.

Meanwhile at the Indonesia Open 2022, Bagas/Fikri’s steps were stopped in the round of 16 after losing to Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Ahead of the Malaysia Open 2022, Bagas/Fikri are now motivated and want to immediately prove their abilities.

“Given the trust by Koh Herry, we will do it optimally. We must not disappoint,” said Fikri quoted by Sportfeat from Kompas.com.

“So our motivation must be enthusiasm. We have been entrusted like that, yes we have to show that young people can,” said Bagas

Imposing a target to the young men’s doubles is not without reason.

This is inseparable from the two best Indonesian pairs currently in a declining phase.

The world number one pair, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya are not in their best form.

The duo, dubbed The Minions, had not played for almost 2 months after Marcus was recovering after surgery.

The Indonesia Masters 2022 and Indonesia Open 2022 are their first two post-surgery events and have not been able to perform at 100 percent.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan who are getting older also have the same fate.

The speed and agility of the couple who are familiarly called The Daddies have now decreased.

Indonesia itself does have many options in the men’s doubles sector.

Besides Bagas/Fikri, Indonesia still has other partners, namely Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Pramudya Kusumawardana/Yeremia Erich Yoche Yacob Rambitan, and Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin.

All of the above pairs are now compact and have won at least one title in 2022.

Unfortunately, it is certain that Pramudya/Yeremia will be temporarily sidelined due to the ACL injury suffered by Yeremia at the Indonesia Open 2022.
