Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, for the first time talked at length about the failure of the transfer of Kylian Mbappe. Perez said this was not the Mbappe he used to want.
Mbappe has been linked with Madrid since last summer. The France international forward often says his dream is to play for The whites.
This summer, Mbappe was widely rumored to be going to Madrid considering that his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired at the end of June. However, the 23-year-old player ultimately rejected Madrid by extending his contract at PSG.
“His dream used to be to play at Real Madrid, we wanted to make it happen last August and they didn’t let him go, he kept saying he wanted to play at Madrid and about 15 days earlier he changed his mind,” Florentino Perez said in an interview with The beach bar as reported Brand.
Florentino Perez believes Mbappe’s dream has changed. Perez also assessed that the Mbappe who is now different from the Mbappe he used to want.
“This is not the Mbappe I want to sign, he is someone else, whose dreams have definitely changed. He changed, he was offered other things, he was pressured and he has become a different footballer,” Perez said.
“Nobody is bigger than Real Madrid. He’s a great player, he can win more than anyone else, but this is a team sport and we have values and principles that we cannot change.”
“Mbappe who will come here is not like this. If that is the case, I would prefer him to stay at PSG. What I want is someone who has a dream,” said Florentino Perez.
