Taking advantage of a nasty outing by starter Kevin Gausman, the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 10-2 Thursday at Rogers Centre.

The Canadian club’s pitcher gave up seven runs, five of which were earned, on seven strikes from a safe place, in just two and a third innings of work.

The sky fell on Gausman’s head (5-6) early in the third set, as he allowed five runs for his rivals. The Jays were never able to recover from that bad streak.

“It was a tough day at the baseball field,” Gausman said after the game. I tried to make adjustments, but I was unable to do so.

It was also the first time that the 31-year-old gunner played against his old team, who played six seasons in the Orioles uniform (2013 to 2018).

Later in the match, Austin Hays kicked the ball out of bounds for the winners. His teammates Ryan Mountcastle, Rougned Odor and Tyler Nevin each drove in two runs against the Queen City club.

At bat for the Blue Jays, Teoscar Hernadez hit a solo homer in the fourth inning. It was the fifth time he’d stretched his arms in 2022. The crowd favorite’s other success came on a single from Alejandro Kirk in the eighth period.

The victory went to the record of Tyler Wells (4-4). In six innings on the mound, the latter gave up one run on five hits and passed three opponents in the mitt.

The Blue Jays return to action on Friday as the New York Yankees travel to Toronto for the first of a three-game series.
