Justine Benin arrested in a Mediapart article

The journalist Pierre Januel details the mechanism implemented by the deputy in her constituency and in particular in the city of Moule, to maintain her electoral relays. Justine Benin, now Secretary of State for the Sea, acknowledges the facts and plays the transparency card.

This is a press article that tarnishes the image of the new Secretary of State for the Sea. This morning, the news website Médiapart published an article entitled “The patronage drift of the new Minister Justine Benin”.
Justine Benin responded to Mediapart. She admits the facts and defends herself. Her interventions were carried out with total transparency.

Médiapart immediately writes, in the midst of a municipal battle, the current Secretary of State for the Sea used money from Modem to water the associations in her commune of Le Moule. In two years, between 2019 and 2020, 37 thousand euros were donated to 14 local entities: football, judo and swimming clubs.

Why the mold? Because it is the municipality that Justine Benin was targeting in the 2020 municipal elections. The information site recalls that this type of payment from a national party, Modem, in this case, to local associations is extremely atypical. They are not found in any other political party, guarantees the journalist. And the suspicious thing is that only the Moule associations have benefited from payments of this magnitude.

For the newspaper, the electoral goal is therefore transparent.

For the national treasurer of Modem, contacted by Médiapart, the party helped Justine Benin, who had joined them shortly before, for its constitution. Therefore, nothing unusual, except that Modem’s statutes do not provide for the subsidy of such local structures.

As for the main stakeholder, she takes over.

Modem has allowed me to help sports or cultural associations that have exhausted their requests for help elsewhere.

The problem, Mediapart points out, is that the money was not only paid to the associations… That money was paid in the middle of the municipal campaign and that certain expenses should have appeared in the Modem campaign account. But Justine Benin insists, she had nothing to do with the 2020 municipal elections. Lost elections, the site recalls, in a duel against her former mentor, Gabrielle Louis Carabin.
