Judoka Ariela Sánchez wins bronze in the European Open

SANTO DOMINGO. Ariela Sánchez won the bronze medal at the 2022 European Judo Open Championship that concluded this Sunday in Madrid, Spain.

To win the third place medal in the minus 63 kilos category, Ariela defeated Vlada Kopnyayeva, from Spain, in the repechage.

In the preliminary round, the young Dominican judoka beat Mathilde Briant, from France, and then dispatched the German Annabelle Winzig, but in the third attempt she fell to Cristina Cabana Pérez, from Spain.

The gold medal was won by Cristina Cabana Iva Oberan, who beat the German Agatha Schmidt in the final, who won the silver medal. The other bronze went to Iva Oberan, from Croatia.

The participation of the athletes in the tournament, who train at the High Technification Center of Valencia, is possible with the support of the Creating Olympic Dreams Group (COD).

The European Senior Judo in Madrid will award valid points for the world ranking.

In addition to the contest, the Quisqueyan judo team plans to participate in a preparation base for international events.

The judo tournament has the participation of a total of 454 athletes from the five continents.
