Jameson Taillon is two sets away from a perfect match

Yesterday, the Yankees and the Angels played two games. In the first, Shohei Ohtani got crossed by the Yankees… and Nestor Cortes Jr. was dominant.

In Ohtani’s case, manager Joe Maddon believes the pitcher had a hard time hiding his pitches well and the Yankees took advantage of it – completely legally.

But it was especially the second game that was interesting. After all, Jameson Taillon had seven perfect innings under his tie, refusing to help the cause of baseball law which dictates that the honors of a doubleheader be divided.

Yesterday was also the anniversary of Armando Galarraga’s “perfect match that is not one” with the Tigers.

It was in the top of the eighth that the pitcher lost his perfect game – and the game without a run or hit in the process – via a hit. The defense tried everything, but in vain.

But in the end, it gave a great eight-inning outing.

The Yankees (20-7 at home) had put the ball in a safe place, but didn’t have a point yet. Anthony Rizzo (who pointed out that he, like Taillon, is a cancer survivor) drove in two runs late in the game to secure the win for the Canadian-born pitcher.

What a season for Rizzo, though.

  • Max Muncy and Clayton Kershaw are approaching a return to play.
  • Connor Joe: 29 straight games on goals.
