International competitions do not rest and Spanish badminton has its sights set on Milan, home of the Italian International 2022. The national representation is headed by the sports director of the Federation Arturo Ruiz, and has athletes of the stature of Pablo Abián (second seeded), Kike Peñalver or the doubles of Joan Monroy and Carlos Piris.
Four Spaniards made their debut this Thursday in the preliminary phase, but none managed to get into the final draw. Chinese Taipei player Lin Hsiang Ti (21-13 and 21-14). On the other hand, Nerea Ivorra fell to the English Abigail Holden (21-9 and 21-10), Carlos Piris against the Malaysian NG Jun Yan (24-22 and 21-10) and Joan Monroy against the Indian Tharun Mannepalli (21- 7 and 21-8).
It’s time for the final frame
This Friday begins the decisive phase of the tournament, with the first matches of the final table. Pablo Abián and Kike Peñalver put the Spanish accent in the men’s singles event, while Joan Monroy and Carlos Piris compete in the men’s doubles. In addition, in women’s doubles we have the pairs of Nerea Ivorra – Claudia Leal and Paula López – Elena Lorenzo.
