Nothing has worked since Sunday midnight. According to the association’s statutes, nominations for the presidium had to be submitted no later than seven days before the extraordinary general meeting on June 26 (11 a.m., City Cube). Now it’s clear: the personnel tableau is well filled. There are six applications for the position of President, which is to be filled on Sunday, and four for the position of Vice – and more than 20 applications were submitted as a so-called assessor, i.e. a simple member of the Executive Committee.

In addition to Frank Steffel, Kay Bernstein, Ingmar Pering, Michael Baumgärtner and Marvin Brumme, Florian Kellner was the sixth candidate for the office of President at the end of the week. Since waiter reportedly proposed himself – not in accordance with the statutes – he is threatened with not being allowed to stand in the elections.

Quartet is vying for the post of vice president

According to kicker information, a quartet is up for election for the office of vice-president: the previous board members Peer Mock-Sümer and Fabian Drescher, plus Andreas Nies and Lutz Kirchhof, the long-standing chairman of the club’s amateur football department. Mock-Säumer flanks Pering’s presidential candidacy, who has been acting spokesman for the rump presidency since the regular general meeting at the end of May and the resignations of Thorsten Manske and Norbert Sauer. Drescher, who has been on the Executive Committee since 2016, would only continue to work on the Executive Committee under President Kay Bernstein as Vice President.

In an interview with the “Berliner Morgenpost” Drescher said about Bernstein: “We agree that the club must be united, we need sporting stability as soon as possible and then also sporting success. And of course we have to improve our income situation. These points are we absolutely agree. I am convinced that Kay is exactly the right person for this path. And that I am the right person – based on my internal knowledge – to support him in this.”

He says consistently: Yes, restart, but under Kay Bernstein.

Kay Bernstein on Fabian Drescher

Bernstein also emphasized in a kicker interview on Saturday with a view to Drescher: “He is applying for a higher office and is first vacating the position as an assessor. I think that’s logical. Fabian will not stick to his previous post. He says consistent: restart yes, but under Kay Bernstein.” Such a straightforward approach as Drescher – to remain in the presidency only in the event of an election to the desired (higher) office – have not yet been announced by Pering and Mock-Säumer.

There are also interesting names among the assessor candidates. Marcus Kretlow, founding member and chairman of the Hertha fan club “Alte Dame München”, was proposed, as was Tim Kauermann, the son of Dr. Karl Kauermann, the chairman of the supervisory board of the KGaA (limited partnership on shares). Tim Kauermann belongs to Bernstein’s camp, which strives for broad grassroots involvement. The club’s supervisory board, which has already had many interviews with applicants this week and has to decide on their admission, will go into the next casting round on Monday. It is the start of a week that is trend-setting for Hertha BSC with the election of the successor to long-term President Werner Gegenbauer.
