A modern and inclusive sports center, where boxing, aquatic gymnastic-swimming activities, weight lifting, gymnastics, judo, karate and table tennis will take place, all activities that will be included in the new facility that will be built near the sports hall of via delle Tagliate and the Moreno Martini athletics field, both subject to recent renovations.

The junta yesterday approved the technical and economic feasibility project that was a candidate to obtain funds on the NRP. This is an intervention which, for an amount of 3,275,447 euros, is intended to redesign the face of this part of the city, creating a real citadel of sport, perfectly connected with the Serchio river park on one side and with the historic center on the other.

The area in question is municipal property, has a total area of 12,340 square meters and is currently paved for more than half (6,960 square meters), gravel for 5,320 square meters, while the green portion is 483 square meters. The project plans to allocate 13% of the entire area to the construction of the new building, while the remaining 87% will be occupied by a new park serving the entire citadel of sport and beyond.

The new system, in particular, was designed to fit perfectly into the park, also through the use of perimeter arcades marked by pillars: the northern part of the building, of about 750 square meters, will be occupied by the gymnasium of the boxing and will have a height of 4 meters above ground, to reach 7 meters in the center, at the ring. To the east will be the block of changing rooms and services, to the west there are the stands, an office, toilets for the public, an infirmary, a small bar and technical rooms for the systems. Finally to the south, on an area of 750 square meters and one floor above ground, the building consists of an entrance with reception, an office, a room for physical activity, a large space with a hot tub for recreational activities. , a small space intended as a “quiet room”, changing rooms and warehouse. This part of the building will be characterized by an open central courtyard equipped with greenery. The building will be equipped with photovoltaic panels and thermal insulation.

Now that the feasibility project has been approved, the administration will have to wait for the result of the candidacy for funding from the NRP. If it obtains the necessary resources, it will quickly move on to the definitive and executive phase of the project and then to its construction site, according to the leaner procedures set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
