Golf: the feat of a Belgian amateur player qualified for the US Open

It is a resounding performance in the world of Belgian golf. Adrien Dumont de Chassart, a native of Villers-la-ville and a member of the Royal Waterloo Golf Club, has qualified for the US Golf Open which will begin on June 16 on the Brookline course in Massachusetts. A rather rare performance for an amateur player, especially since the Brabançon returned a card of 4 under par after the 36 holes played on the Springfield course.

I’m on cloud nine after these qualifications“explains the 22-year-old from the United States where he has been studying management for four years. “In recent years, the amateur level has really improved. We will thus be about ten non-pro players out of the 156 players involved in the tournament, but it’s still a very good performance for me. There will obviously be pressure but I’m really excited about what’s happening to me. My objective will be to pass the cut. During these qualifiers, there were players who won a lot of tournaments on the PGA tour. It’s pretty crazy to be able to be so close to these great players and share with them. And that’s exciting because golf is a sport where you can beat anyone at any time.”

Adrien Dumont de Chassart, this is the future of Belgian golf. A player with a very bright future and who has put all the chances on his side to break into this demanding sport. For four years, he has combined an academic career in business management at the prestigious University of Illinois with the practice of high-level sport. “Every day, it’s physical training at 6 a.m., lessons at the unif then golf. Between 25 and 35 hours of practice per week. It’s been quite a busy day but very professional as I go along. We are supervised by an excellent coach who has played for several years at the highest level in the world on the PGA Tour.”

This first grand slam is a new stage in a career that promises to be promising. “I still have a year at university. My goal is to be in the top 5 of the PGA Tour University ranking. Of course, I’m already thinking of other objectives, such as Paris games, for example. If I play my game, there is a way to go very far. It is in any case exciting to realize that all the work done in recent years is starting to pay off.
