Golf. “I do not realize”

Morgane Métraux wrote a page in the history of Swiss golf on Saturday. The 25-year-old Vaudoise won the Italian Open to become the second Swiss woman to win on the Ladies European Tour, the main European professional circuit, 32 years after the victory of Zurich’s Evelyn Orley at Bonmont.

“I don’t really realize,” said Morgane Métraux, contacted by Swiss Golf. “I was still three strokes behind with four holes remaining. Everything went so fast afterwards. I said to myself that I no longer had a choice, and I managed to continue, ”explained the Vaudoise again.

His victory is, to say the least, unexpected. Morgane Métraux has indeed returned to Europe because she had no tournament scheduled for three weeks in the United States. And she won her ticket for this Italian Open thanks to her 3rd place obtained in Belgium the previous week.

An eagle in the 1st round of the jump-off

In the lead after the first of three rounds tied with her older sister Kim (27), Morgane Métraux won in the play-off at Gold Club Margara. She forced the decision with an eagle shot on the first hole of the play-off to beat Italian amateur Alessandra Fanali and Englishwoman Meghan MacLaren, tied for second.

Morgane Métraux, who was in 2nd place on Friday evening one step behind the provisional leader Lee-Anne Pace (finally 6th), thus pocketed a check for 30,000 euros. His sister Kim meanwhile finished in 7th place with a total of 209 shots, three more than Morgane at the end of the three rounds.
