Gianmarco Pozzecco is the new coach of the Italian national basketball team

The Italian Basketball Federation has announced, as already anticipated in the last few days, that Gianmarco Pozzecco will be the next technical commissioner of the men’s national basketball team, taking the place that in recent years had been of Meo Sacchetti. Pozzecco’s first match as Italy’s manager will be on June 25, in a friendly against Slovenia, after which there will be other friendlies to prepare for the matches valid for qualifying for the 2023 World Cup.

Pozzecco, who will turn 50 in September, was born in Gorizia and was a whimsical playmaker who in 2004 won a historic Olympic silver medal with Italy. He started coaching in 2012 and in recent years he first coached Dinamo Sassari and was then assistant coach of Ettore Messina at Olimpia Milano.
