Fifa is apparently planning to use “robot linesmen” at the World Cup. An official statement on this is expected next week, reports the British “Sun“.
The “Robot Referees” is a semi-automatic offside system that uses ten cameras to record 29 points on the body of each individual player. The technology detects offside positions at lightning speed and sends the data to the referees. Instead of video evidence, which can take several minutes, the “robot linesmen” make their decision within half a second.

The system has already been tested at the Club World Cup and the Arab Cup in a number of stadiums in Doha – with success.
