What’s next for storm veteran Manuel Schäffler (33)?
After a strong first season at the club (10 goals and 4 assists in 24 games), the 1.89 meter man was one of the big disappointments of the past season (4 goals and 2 assists in 27 appearances). As BILD reported, FCN wants to get rid of Schäffler (contract until 2023) this summer.
But: Due to his high salary (over 500,000 euros a year), it is difficult to say goodbye to the Upper Bavarian. According to BILD information, nothing decisive is currently happening in the matter.

Irrespective of this, sports director Dieter Hecking (57) demands an increase from Schäffler: “Manuel and I have a very good exchange. I told him that it wasn’t his season and that it will be difficult for him if he doesn’t do more. But he is still a player at 1. FC Nürnberg and should now show how things can be improved.”

Hecking doesn’t use the excuse that FCN Schäffler, as a penalty area striker, doesn’t really like the intensive game he’s running.
The sports boss: “I don’t want to give him an alibi like the fact that we played other football. I just think he can play football a lot better than some of the last year. Even if he was certainly thrown back again and again by injuries.”
But one thing is clear: It shouldn’t get any easier for Schäffler in the coming season either.
