Espargaró and Viñales lead the Aprilia at the start of the GP of Catalonia in Montmeló

Aleix Espargaró made his aspirations clear in the ninth round of the championship. The Catalan is proving that he wants to compete for the second victory of the season in the “home” race, the MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalonia. That it is “his home” could be literal because Aleix was born just three kilometers from the Catalan route, in Granollers, and has not yet achieved victory on this circuit. So, bottom line is that we’re really looking forward to this weekend. In addition, this could cut even further distances in the fight for the world title with Fabio Quartararo. The day of the second free practice was the most profitable for the Aprilia because, apart from Aleix, who was the best with 1: 39.402, Maverick Viñales from Girona was second (1: 39.705).

Aleix finished dominating, with three tenths above Viñales and about half a second behind the Italians Enea Bastianini and “Pecco” Bagnaia, while Jorge Martín improved significantly and finished fifth, ahead of Brad Binder and Jack Miller. The pace of training increased with the passing of the minutes, which led to some mistakes, such as the one starring Repsol Honda tester, German Stefan Bradl, who fell to the ground in curve five when he was testing a new exhaust system. At another point on the Aleix circuit, which premieres a helmet design in honor of his daughter Mia, who was born with a very serious heart condition from which she had to undergo surgery, and then will auction so that all the benefits go to the CorAllFamily managed to complete the lap with the fastest lap, 1.40.067 to take the lead with 34 thousandths ahead of Rins, who was also testing changes to the bike.

In the end, practically all the riders improved their morning times, except Rins, who in the last minute of the session had as a personal reference a 1.40.101 which relegated him to the seventh position, while Viñales was climbed to the first position (1.39.705). It didn’t last long for Roses because behind Aleix he improved to 1,399,402, just over three tenths of a second faster than his teammate.

Aleix (MotoGP), Arón Canet (Moto2) and Izan Guevara (Moto3) met all the expectations prior to the start of the Catalan Grand Prix and dominated the free practice in their respective categories. Albert Arenas was sixth with a time of 1: 44.741. It should be noted that in both Moto2 and Moto3, the weather conditions prevented a significant improvement in the times of most riders.
