El Godó and Madrid will be played in consecutive weeks in 2023

The new strategic plan ‘OneVision’ announced by the ATP, which governs the men’s professional circuit, will have its impact on the 2023 calendar of the two most important tournaments that are played in Spain. The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell-Conde de Godó Trophy and the Mutua Madrid Open will be held in consecutive weeks, with a difference of three days between the final in Barcelona and the start in the Magic Box. There won’t be a one-week cushion in between. Although the top seeds will have more margin to be exempt from opening rounds.

They will be held successively Monte Carlo Masters 1000 (April 9 to 16), the Godó (17 a 23), Madrid (April 26 to May 7) and Roma (May 10 to May 21). A week is lost for the benefit of the growth of the Caja Mágica and Foro Italico events.

The Masters 1000 grow in days, from 8 to 12, to accommodate a main draw that grows from 56 to 96 players. The economic prizes must rise by 35% between 2023, when they release the new format Madrid, Roma y Shanghaiand 2025, when they join the same Canada and Cincinnati.

Indian Wells y Miami They were already approaching two weeks of tournament, while Monte Carlo and the ‘indoor’ in Paris will continue to be eight-day competitions.

The Godó will maintain the condition of only ATP 500 of his weekwhich will continue to share with the Belgrade ATP 250. Although in 2023 there will be another ATP 250 tournament on the same dates, that of Munich.

The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) ensures that the new ‘OneVision’ plan includes an audit of tournament accounts with the aim of dividing fifty percent of the profits between events and tennis players.
