COMPANY / The world champion of Sea Rowing and Beach Sprints, Esther Briz Zamorano, Best Athlete 2021 of the Helios Swimming Center

A total of 17 athletes from the Club have chosen to receive the award for Best Athlete 2021.

The Helios Swimming Center has celebrated its traditional 2022 Sports Festival at the Aura Restaurante hotel complex. This event aims to recognize and reward the efforts of the best athletes of the previous season.

Among the 17 candidates presented, Esther Briz Zamorano has been chosen as the Best Athlete 2021, who has received the “Colossus of Rhodes”, a corporeal expression of the “god of the sun” in Greek mythology and a representative symbol of the heliophile sport.

At an international level, Esther was crowned Sea Rowing World Champion (C2xMix), Beach Sprints World Champion (C2xMix), Sea Rowing Spanish Champion (C2xMix), 4th position in the European Championship in U23W1X, 1st position in Head of the Charles Regatta (college championship 8+), 2nd position in NCAA in women’s first varsity 8+ and 1st classified in C2xMix and 2nd in teams in the Principe Alberto II regatta.

Also, athletes such as María Eizaguerri, from Chess, and Alexander Jurado, from rowing, defended the blue kit in international competitions. Raúl Usón, from the Weightlifting section, has managed to get on the podium in Spanish championships; Joane Buldain, from Judo; and Marchos Echevarría, from Swimming.

Likewise, during the gala a special mention was made to those Helios athletes who achieved great achievements in national competitions, specifically Valentina Domingo, swimming; Gonzalo Montagud; rowing and Julia Martínez and Alex Asensio, both canoeing.
