[BWF 배드민턴] ‘Iron Wall Defense’ Choi Sol-gyu and Kim Won-ho make their way to the Indonesian Open doubles final… Women’s Doubles-Mixed Doubles Bronze Medal: Nate Sports

[스포티비뉴스=조영준 기자] Sol-gyu Choi (27, Yonex) and Won-ho Kim (23, Samsung Life Insurance), who had an ‘iron wall defense’, advanced to the men’s doubles final of the World Badminton Federation (BWF) Indonesia Open.

Solkyu Choi and Wonho Kim competed in the men’s doubles semifinal match at the BWF World Tour Super 1000 Series Indonesia Open held in Jakarta, Indonesia on the 18th (Korea time), with Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Scarub Rasmussen Joe 2-1 (13-21 21-12 21-) 18) to win.

Choi Sol-gyu worked with Seo Seung-jae (25, Armed Forces Athletic Unit) until the 2022 Tokyo Olympics held last year. After being eliminated from the Olympic qualifiers, he paired up with Kim Won-ho and made it to the final at this year’s BWF World Tour for the first time.

Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim defeated Min-hyeok Kang (23, Samsung Life Insurance) and Seung-jae Seo 2-1 (16-21 21-13 21-18) in the quarterfinals held the day before. On the way to the finals, their opponent was the world No. 9 Astrup-Rasmussen group.

They met for the first time in this match. Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim gave up one set and started uneasy. However, as time passed, the defense was revived, and Choi Sol-gyu’s surprise attack was also powerful.

Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim won the second set 21-12, turning the game to the starting point. In the last 3 sets 9-9, Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim led the team 11-9 by scoring consecutive goals with a counterattack following a persistent defense.

Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim arrived at the 20-point mark by tying Choi Sol-gyu’s bold attack and the opponent’s room in a situation ahead of 17-15. The Astrup-Rasmussen group pursued 18-20, but could not keep up with the wide gap. In the end, Rasmussen’s punishment came out, and Choi Sol-gyu and Kim Won-ho took the ticket to the finals.

Sol-gyu Choi and Won-ho Kim will face off against China’s Liu Yuchen-Oushuan on the afternoon of the 19th for the championship.

In the women’s doubles semi-final match, Lee So-hee (28) and Shin Seung-chan (28, above Incheon International Airport) group lost to Japan’s Fukushima Yuki and Hirota Sayaka group 1-2 (21-9 14-21 18-21).

Sohee Lee and Seungchan Shin advanced to the quarterfinals at the Thailand Open last month and the Indonesia Masters that ended last week. Although they succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals in this tournament, they lost to the Japanese team and won the bronze medal.

Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung (27, Incheon International Airport), who were aiming to advance to the mixed doubles final, also lost the match between Korea and Japan. Seungjae Seo and Yoojung Chae lost to Japan’s Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino 1-2 (18-21 21-17 15-21) in the mixed doubles semifinal match.

Although Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yoo-jung failed to advance to the finals, they won bronze medals for the second week in a row following the Indonesian Masters.
