Bulgarian football international Todor Nedelew is conscious and responsive after undergoing surgery for traumatic brain injury. This was announced by the Bulgarian association on Sunday. The former professional of FSV Mainz 05 was transferred from the intensive care unit of the university hospital in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi to the neurosurgical department. The Bulgarians were involved in a serious traffic accident on Friday when they were traveling to the Nations League game in Georgia. Midfielder Nedelew, 29, who played in Mainz from 2014 to 2016, suffered a traumatic brain injury. According to the doctors, the operation went well: “It was a serious operation and we should not rush into anything at the moment. The most important thing is that Todor stays calm and can recover as much as possible,” it said.
