Pour (red). Another sound limit has been reached at TSG Blau-Gold Gießen: the 2000th member was welcomed with three-year-old Malaika Werz by chairman Bernhard Zirkler and Julia Haitsch. She was delighted with her gift, a ballet sticker book.

The lively club has developed from a pure dance club to a multi-disciplinary club. Classical ballet and children’s dance for all ages and levels of ability, the now seven martial arts departments, the new rhythmic gymnastics and children’s gymnastics offerings and the long-running pole sports and fitness are showing particularly strong growth. The age structure of the club is remarkable. The average age of all members is 23 years and the proportion of children and young people under the age of 18 is around 1150, i.e. almost 60 percent, according to a press release.

Bernhard Zirkler took stock of the situation briefly at the award ceremony and explained the path to success since it was founded in 1982. The association had experienced ups and downs until the restructuring and orientation in 2000 brought a continuous upward trend. Already in 2012 the 500th member was registered, within only three years this number was doubled and three years later tripled. After a small slump during the Corona period, the blue-golden have had almost 500 new members since autumn 2021 and thus reached the 2000 mark.

The comprehensive digitization, which was expanded during the lockdown, was helpful. Over 60,000 euros have been invested in order to keep teaching going with around 100 online courses per week over the past two years. The entire administration system, from course registration to attendance control to the collection of fees, was designed digitally and all teachers and representatives were trained accordingly. Laptops and monitors were purchased and meanwhile enable many courses to be offered in a “hybrid” format. Subsidies from the State of Hesse, the State Sports Association and the German Foundation for Commitment and Volunteering (DSEE) have made these future-oriented measures possible.

After the members of the 1st Giessen Judo Club had found a new home at Blau-Gold, there was not only sporting success but also significant growth in the martial arts departments, especially in the children’s and youth sectors. With membership in the gymnastics association and the commitment of young trainers, many children found their way to the new TSG children’s gymnastics groups. In the meantime, more than 40 Ukrainian refugee children are taking advantage of various offers at Blau-Gold. Many are excellently trained, some have attended sports boarding schools and represent an enrichment but also a burden on the group capacities for those responsible for the club.

Over 50 different sports in 170 groups, looked after by 85 exercise and group leaders, meanwhile the range of offers of the sports community counts and the trend in development shows a steep upward trend. A tight management structure makes it possible to respond to current trends at short notice, especially in the fast-moving dance and fitness scene. This year, TSG is aiming to further expand the range of offers and events.

Tomorrow, June 18th, the 1st Giessen Sports Gymnastics Cup will be held in the “Am Ried” sports hall in Wieseck, and on the following Sunday the 1st Giessen Judo Cup. Both competitions are advertised for children and young people and the athletes can present themselves to the Giessen public again after a long time.
