Baseball: Holm Westend 69ers lose at Berlin Sluggers

After young talent Marc Wanke had to vacate his place on the mound, Holmer gave up their lead and went away empty-handed again.

Sold properly again, got nothing again. Christian Opitz, head coach of the Holm Westend 69’ers, had to explain the next defeats of his baseball players in the 2nd Bundesliga after a long day in the capital. The district of Pinneberger lost to the Berlin Sluggers 12:17 and 4:6.

“We’re not very lucky, but we’re on it. Ultimately, we simply lack the cleverness,” said Opitz. After a good start with temperatures around 30 degrees and a quick lead, the first setback for the weakened guests from Holm followed immediately.

16-year-old pitcher Marc Wanke complained of arm pain in the early stages and had to be replaced by Dirk Wagner in the third inning.

“Dirk wasn’t really warm yet and got into the game with difficulty,” said Opitz. The result: The 69ers gave up their lead and lost quite clearly in the first exchange of blows, despite a respectable haul of points.

Japan import Kento Akane is getting going

In the second duel with the Berlin “Schlägern” the import players were allowed to play on the mound. Holm’s pitcher Kento Akane presented himself in good shape and only allowed a few runs. “He has recovered and is now a real reinforcement for us,” praised head coach Opitz.

Also because the thin guest contingent reduced from eleven to nine players during the game day, the 69ers did not have much to oppose the Berliners. “We lost the second game in the sixth inning,” said Opitz.
