ATP, Economy > Patricio Apey, former manager of Zverev: “He wanted to be king before being prince. Two years ago, he had seven contracts, and to my knowledge he only has one left”

A well-known figure in professional tennis for having managed players like Gaston Gaudio, Petr Korda and Andy Murray, Patricio Apey now takes care of the interests of Stefanos Tsitsipas. He also served as manager of Alexander Zverev before the latter decided to join Roger Federer’s Team 8, an agency he also parted ways with last year.

Apey, who received 1.4 million dollars from the German player after an amicable consultation following the breach of contract, confided in our colleagues from clay tennis over this period.

“Listen, I’m calm, I sleep well. It does not bother me. There are opinions that say it was fair (amicable settlement, editor’s note), there are opinions that say it wasn’t fair. The fact is, if you look at the past, things are very clear: two or three years ago he had seven contracts, and as far as I know he has only one left. He is a very good player and he will win many Grand Slam tournaments, but there is a period when he wanted to be king before being prince, and he may have lost his way. If he wins five Wimbledons, he can change things. He’s like a typical tennis champion who always knows more than everyone else. I have no problem with him. Things happen, he must have his reasons. He made it known in the press. I don’t know if it was him or if it was his lawyers who wanted to celebrate triumphs or something. »
