an amateur football club struck off for repeated violence

The prefect of Côtes-d’Armor struck off FC Tréméloir, an amateur football club which had just been excluded from its championship. Recently, one of his players was sentenced to six months in prison for violently attacking an opponent.

The team had already been excluded from its championship, District 3. FC Tréméloir, an amateur football club in the agglomeration of Saint-Brieuc, was expelled from the French Football Federation. The decision was taken by the prefect, competent to withdraw the approval and, above all, exasperated by the disturbances “to public order and public morals” which continued to accumulate.

The repeated acts of violence during the matches had resulted, last April, in the sentencing to six months in prison of one of the players of FC Tréméloir. Also banned from the stadium for a year and deprived of a license for five years, the individual had dealt brutal blows to an opponent on the ground, in a match against the Ploumagoar team. As reported 20 Minutes21 days of total interruption of work had been prescribed for the victim, suffering in particular from a cranial traumatism.

The town hall couldn’t take it anymore

Before that, a few weeks ago, a referee had been threatened by the coach and the players. In 2019, a club complained of intimidation. So many incidents which demonstrate, for the representative of the State, that the club “does not respect the ethics of sport” and that it “presents risks to the health and physical or moral safety of practitioners”.

“The sports meetings in which FC Tréméloir participates have been regularly marred by violence, threats and intimidation since its first year of exercise in 2018, having led several members to resign and to what the town hall of Pordic-Tréméloir wished repeatedly prohibit FC Tréméloir’s access to its infrastructure”, declared the prefect Stéphane Rouvé, quoted by West France.

According to The Telegram, the town hall has even decided to dismantle the goals of its football field. “This club and its players spread values ​​that are not ours. Even if they have the Tréméloir football field available, they are not inhabitants of the town”, testified the mayor Joël Bâtard.
