Amélie Mauresmo talks about her first year as RG Tournament Director.

Amélie Mauresmo has completed her first year as director of the Roland-Garros tournament. She and her team now plan to take a hard look at this year’s edition and see if they can make any changes for the future of the tournament.

Last year, Guy Forget stepped down from his role as French Open tournament director and former Grand Slam champion Mauresmo replaced him. The first year as French Open tournament director was certainly not easy for Ms Mauresmo, who faced challenges and criticism.

In the first ten days of the tournament, only one women’s match was scheduled for the night session. “It was physically difficult, not only for me but also for all the teams.

The day and night sessions, the programming part is probably what took me the most time throughout the tournament. I focused a lot on this topic, trying to make the right choices and keep sporting fairness at the center of it all,” Mauresmo told Eurosport.

Mauresmo: We could definitely make some changes.

“We will put everything on the table. What is good. What needs to be improved. Can we keep one game for the night session, would we go to two games.

Also the starting time,” added Mauresmo. Asked about the lack of women’s matches scheduled for the night session, she suggested that the men’s matches were more appealing.

Mauresmo was criticized for her comments, but she later explained herself and said her comments were taken out of context. “First of all, the comments I made were taken out of the bigger picture, out of context.

And I want to apologize to the players who really felt bad about what I said,” Mauresmo explained. “Again, I think people who know me, who knew me on and off the court, throughout my career, throughout everything I have done, know that I am a great fighter for equal rights in women’s tennis, and for women in general. ”
