A slump for the capitals

The Capitales of Quebec are experiencing the worst moments of their 2022 season, they who lost a third game in a row for the first time of the campaign, Friday in Augusta. They lost the flag 3-2 to the Sussex County Miners.

Despite this recent slump, in which they have also lost five of their last six games, manager Patrick Scalabrini’s men still have the best record (22-8) in the Frontier League.

In the first duel of a series of three against the Miners, the strikers of the Belle Province team came up against pitcher John Baker. The crowd-favorite gunner had a complete game, where he left 14 opponents in the dust. He only allowed four hits and one walk. The two runs he allowed came on solo long balls by TJ White and Kyle Crowl, respectively, in the seventh inning.

These two long balls allowed the visitors to take a 2-0 lead, but the Miners responded on their next turn at bat. Martin Figueora first ejected an offering from pitcher Codie Paiva out of bounds. Then, a few batters later, Cito Culver hit a two-run double.

This strike from Culver ended the game for Paiva, who was retired after being on the mound for six and a third innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.

The Capitals will wrap up a 10-game road trip Saturday and Sunday against the Miners.
